Happily married to Phil Mills (phillip2367). A Torontonian because I love the diversity of my city. A lover of animals, with two rescued cats and four backyard bird feeders. Own a quarter horse named Nijomi, and ride near Uxbridge. Now a filker, thanks to Phil, despite being told all my life I could not sing (now I prove it often), and part of the wonderful filk community of southern Ontario. My first ever song is A Pegasus Must Be White! Lousy but enthusiastic photographer active in Toronto Guild for Photographic Art. Pesticide-free gardener, particularly of berries and herbs. A cook who uses exotic spices and subjects friends and family to untried dishes. My chocolates, pies and other desserts are more reliably good, including the Penguin shortbread cookies.
Business: I am passionate about leadership and integrity in the voluntary sector. I have my own consulting firm that seeks to create better futures for communities and organizations through values-based leadership. Currently providing governance, strategic planning, board development and ethics services as a consultant to charities, associations, foundations, co-operatives, advocacy groups, government agencies and businesses who partner with nonprofits. Successful Executive Director of Ontario Equestrian Federation 96-99 and open to another such leadership role in the sector (I miss being there to implement the ideas and recommendations I help organizations come up with as a consultant). On a per diem basis, was a Commissioner of the Ontario Racing Commission, governing horse racing and adjudicating appeals and chairing the Governance Committee, 2004-2008. Graduate of and heavily involved with Creating the Future.
Volunteering: Chair (long ago and again March 2011) and founding member of Ethics Practitioners' Association of Canada. Government Relations Committee member, Canadian Society of Association Executives. Governance Affinity Group member, Alliance for Nonprofit Management. President of Filk Society of Upper Canada and member of FKO ConCom. Secretary of the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association (administering the Aurora Awards). Past Treasurer of Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association.
